A 1/2″ copper water pipe has frozen and cracked. Water is leaking from the crack into an unfinished basement area, the background is oriented strand board (OSB) and ice. This type of crack can happen in cold areas with poor insulation. The water inside the pipe freezes causing the crack, once water starts to flow a large amount of damage can quickly occur.
